Default GW listening to players

I love Guild Wars. I've played a good many other games and it seems if there is an issue that alot of people have a problem with, it takes so long for anything to be done about it. With GW it seems like they actually listen to players on a lot of issues and change or add things that players want.

One thing I always thought would be cool is if there was a way to duel another player. Now, anyone can go to the guild hall and scrimmage. Or mini-pets. Mini-pets really don't give any advantages to your character or affect game play in any way. They just added them for the fun of it. One thing they really listened to was alliance chat. It really didn't take them all that long to change alliance chat so that people other than officers could use it, which a lot of people hated. From other games I've played I wouldn't have been surprised if we were still waiting for such a minor fix, because of some excuse that "there are more important issues to work on."

I don't think there should be any question as to whether or not they listen to us. They do.

Bots. People complain about ANet not doing anything about bots, then after a period of their investigation, they gather the facts and ban a bunch of accounts for using bots, based on the results of their investigations. Then, the people who were banned start threads and complain that they have been wrongly banned. ANet knew people would complain when they got banned, so they took the extra time to get their facts before taking action, then they did so. This seemed like ANet wasn't doing anything, but in fact they were. And they had to take their time because they had to substantiate themselves for what they knew would be a lot of complaints.

Alliance chat. People complained that only officers could chat - now that's changed. Now we have threads about trade spam and other garbage in alliance chat. lol. Either way, ANet listened and took action.

Opening up the missions for non-native characters. They listened to the valid complaints and took action.

Character slots. They say we will have the opportunity to purchase additional characters slots this summer for $10 each and I have every reason to believe them.

Elite mission access. They listened to the complaints and are working on a solution for an alternative means to enter the elite missions. They have not told us what the alternative method is, but I have to assume they considered some of our suggestions. This should not preclude them from coming up with their own solution, but I know they listened to our complaints about the access, and I believe they listened to our suggestions.

Need I go on?

There are plenty of examples of changes made resulting from ANet listening to valid complaints / suggestions from the community. This doesn't mean they should implement every change suggested. But ANet is VERY receptive and I appreciate that.

People who don't realize ANet listens to the community is very likely a spoiled brat and thinks that when they don't get exactly what they want, that people aren't listening to them.

Armor upgrades aren't a priority.. anyone remember the 15k tormentors?

Don't get me wrong, I own a set of rouge armor that I'd love to wear without the energy loss.

That is purely looks.

Right now we are talking about stats, you know, balance issues? Definitely a priority in my book.

quoted for undeniable truth.

They do listen, I've never said they don't. I have, however, said they do not come through when they promise something. Last I checked, we're still missing 3 things they've repeatedly claimed to be "high priority" that they promised would come 'soon'. So, I'm still right.

Nice list Swinging Fists. Some people have said they promise things but don't come through. I think the problem is they do come through, but not fast enough for a lot of people. Maybe the reason I think GW is doing such a great job is that I have played games for a good while, starting from original Everquest, and I remember changes to those games coming very slowly, especially changes that involve player demands. Usually changes that came were fixes to things that were simply broken or bugged to begin with. So, I'm comparing that with Guild Wars and GW is just awesome. Alot of people may not have that comparison to work with. Not to mention the no monthly fee for GW. That is a whole other issue I won't get into, but I do believe we would all be happily paying something like $5.00 a month if they wanted us to.

The ArenaNet team listens, but their answer doesn't have to be a "yes" or an immediate implementation. They get some ideas about what the community wants, then add the appropriate game changes to their "to-do" list.

No we all wouldn`t. That`s why I play this game. Don`t want to derail this thread and whip this dead horse again but it peeves me when people mention this and start the whole thing over again.

Let me join with Olfin B. and say that I too would not be happy with a monthly fee. In fact if it came about, even if it was 50¢ I would be gone.

On the list of things I would most like to see that I know I never will, I would like the ability to morph character faces to the degree I can in Sims 2. For each morph dial, this would add about 256 bytes of data that you would need to download upon seeing the character - namely the settings for that dial. That might sound very small, but it would add up in the extreme if you walked into a place like Ascalon district 1 on a busy day... so I doubt I will ever see it, but I sure would like to anyway. That to me rates higher than more storage, new skills, better armor, or any other thing.

The changes to alliance chat made one of my Alliance's guilds have every member turn off alliance chat, and one other left

Listening to the majority usually isn't a good thing (if people knew what was best for them they wouldn't need governing bodies in the first place). Thankfully Anet doesn't listen to every stupid demand either.

If it's that bad, have the lead alliance set some ground rules for using chat, and kick any guilds that don't follow it out of the alliance. Easy.

In a group with 600-1000 people it isn't exactly a slice of cake to get them all to obey. Today it is lucky you can find a group of 30 who will! People will still try and pass off their goods into alliance chat.

Hey, look, I'm Cervantes now ^_^ yay

I just hope they won't listen too well.

I've seen many a game go down because the devs listened a bit too much.

As someone who's been around since one week after release... Here's some other things ANet has listened to players and fixed (off the top of my head, I'm sure I'm missing lots):

* Mobs should flee from AoE spells!
* There should be Ale!
* Protective Bond should be nerfed!
* Do something about Spiritspam!
* It's difficult to cap skills while they're being cast!
* There should be a skill trader with all non-elite skills!
* PvP-only players shouldn't have to PvE-grind to unlock skills!
* Ether Renewal should be nerfed!
* Do something about the WTS/WTB spam in All chat (OK, it wasn't effective, but they *tried*)!
* Rune/Dye traders!
* Make it possible to remove the name of pets!

So, yeah, they listen. The two most commonly asked-for things they've NOT implemented, is a votekick option while in instance, and an auction house.
